Benefits Of Garden Paving
When it comes to transforming your outdoor space, there are lots of materials to choose from such as decking, gravel or even fresh concrete.
While you may want to use a combination of materials to achieve different things in your garden, here are some of the benefits of opting for garden slabs (paving) over other materials specifically.
Patio Stones Have Timeless Appeal
Paving slabs are available in an array of colours and materials. But something which remains consistent regardless of the paving slabs you opt for is that when installed, a patio always looks fantastic.
Patios never go out of style and can also improve the value of your property. Most of all, patios provide an extremely practical surface for all your outdoor dining, entertaining and relaxing needs.
Paving Stones Offer Excellent Longevity
Forget having to stain a timber deck or refresh your gravel every few years by opting for garden paving slabs instead!
As the name suggests, paving slabs are designed specifically to be used in outdoor projects for the likes of patios, driveways and other functional purposes. Not only do paving stones fair well in all weather conditions but strength wise they are also built to last.
So long as paving is installed correctly and maintained over time (i.e. cleaned), paving stones will continue to offer a durable surface to use within your garden.
Lots Of Different Colours And Materials To Explore
No two gardens are the same, and the amazing benefit of paving slabs is that you can choose from endless colours and materials. These range from contemporary natural slate colours to rich earthy tones and even multi-coloured paving flags.
Whatever you have in mind for your patio project, Stone Warehouse supplies a quality range of paving spanning various paving slab sizes. Plus material textures such as smooth and anti-slip finishes.
All of which means you'll find the right paving slabs for your project plus all the accessories you need for your outdoor space.

Do I Need Planning Permission For Paving Back Garden?
Planning permission is generally not required for paving a back garden. However, you should comply with certain landscaping regulations to ensure you arn't responsible for flooding.
For front gardens, any driveway surface must ensure that any run-off water from the garden is not directed towards existing drains on public pavements or highways. This is to help reduce the strain on the drainage networks to prevent flooding. If the surface will be covered with more than 5 metres of impermeable material then planning permission will be needed. If you are unsure whether planning permission is required for your landscaping project, please consult your local planning authority.
Can I Pave My Front Garden?
Yes, you can pave your front garden so long as you adhere to any planning permission regulations. These relate to ensuring adequate drainage of rainwater along with not exceeding 5 metres of paving coverage. Be sure to research your local authority planning regulations before paving your front garden. Read here for more information on permeable paving from the RHS.
How Much Does It Cost To Pave A Garden?
The cost of paving will depend on the material you choose along with the level of coverage required. There may also be additional costs for installation depending on whether or not you plan on installing the paving yourself. While costs can vary, our patio kits are priced starting from £44 through to £549. (Prices for products will vary depending on your delivery postcode) Therefore, we offer plenty of choice whether you’re looking to spruce up a small garden on a budget or create a more substantial installation.
How To Lay Paving Slabs In The Garden
On the Stone Warehouse YouTube channel, we’ve uploaded a video aptly called ‘How to lay a patio’. Here, we take you through all the steps including how to prepare the ground surface, add a base layer, mix the perfect mortar and how to cut your paving slabs to size. We highly recommend giving the video a watch, and subscribing to our channel so that you can benefit from our top garden tricks and tips!
What Can Concrete Sleepers Be Used For?
Our lightly textured concrete sleepers can be used for garden paving, garden walls, pathway borders, water features or as standalone decorative features within your garden. We supply our concrete sleepers in two colour options which mimic beautiful wood textures.
What Is Cheaper Than Garden Paving Slabs?
We offer a range of garden paving slabs to suit all budgets. However, if you are in search of an even cheaper option then gravel might be a better fit for your needs. Alternatively, you could opt for a mixture of gravel and paving for your project. In either case, you’ll find all the landscaping materials you need on our website!
What Do You Put Down Before Patio Slabs?
Patio slabs (aka paving slabs) require a level layer of sub-base MOT Type 1 applied first. Secondly, add mortar to be mixed and applied to the ground on top of your MOT Type 1. This ensures the patio slabs will have great adhesion. Mortar also offers some flexibility to be able to level out to the required surface fall as you work. This can be achieved by using a spirit level to ensure the patio slabs have been installed evenly before the mortar has time to set.
What Is A Cheaper Alternative To Natural Stone Paving?
We sell plenty of paving slabs made from concrete at affordable prices. In particular, concrete can replicate the look of sandstone paving slabs, slate paving slabs, granite paving, limestone paving and other types of natural stone that may be too expensive or impractical for your project.
