50mm Pebbles Usage Ideas
The 50mm pebble category can be used for the purposes of drainage, or as a decorative touch to pathway edges, rockeries, garden borders or water features.
Borders
Larger pebbles can be used to fill borders. They can also be placed on top of raised beds and other vegetation for decorative purposes.
Since 50mm pebbles include some incredibly eye-catching colour options, they can be a real asset within garden design, especially when it comes to establishing or highlighting the edge of your borders.
Driveways And Paths
While any pebble or stone size above 20mm isn’t geared towards driveways or paths, as this is our ‘up to 50mm pebbles’ category, some styles may contain smaller sized pebbles within the comfortable walking range. For instance, our Scottish Pebbles 14-20mm is one of our most popular styles which is tagged within this product category.
In short, any of our pebbles, gravel or stones sized between 14mm and 20mm makes for an easy to install and highly durable surface to walk or drive on. With the sheer range of colours available, our pebbles will also make an incredible style statement!
Gabion Walls
Larger pebbles, particularly those at 50mm and above can be be placed in gabion baskets. These can form the likes of gabion walls, gabion fencing, gabion seating and even raised beds.
While gabion walls nearly always use much larger stones or cobbles, it is possible to mix and match with smaller stones, so long as the stones are large enough not to slip through the gaps of the metal baskets.
Furthermore, using pebbles around the 50mm size can help create more of a dense look to your gabion wall or structure, since you can tightly pack all of the stones together.
Fish Ponds
Many of our pebbles around the size of 50mm are fish friendly, with clarification available on each product page to guide you.
Pebbles offer an excellent structure within any pond. Not only do pebbles help keep the water clean, they also provide a natural layer for your fish to safely swim above.
It’s also common to place pebbles around the edge of the pool to create habitats for bugs and other insects to thrive, which improves biodiversity within your garden.
Since pebbles can also be selected based on their colour, they also bring a beautiful look to your garden, whether you opt for white, grey or even multi-coloured fish friendly pebbles.
Rockeries
When building a rockery, it’s easy to focus on those larger boulders, cobbles and stones. But without plenty of smaller stones to fill any gaps, your rockery could look a little bare.
Our 50mm pebbles will soon come to the rescue. Since they are available in endless shades and materials, you can easily fill gaps with the same or a similar type of stone. Or, you could choose to experiment with alternating colours depending on your design.
Over time, our 50mm pebbles can also be used to refresh the design so that your rockery continues to bring you years of enjoyment.
Pathway Edges
Although larger pebbles above 20mm aren’t comfortable to walk on, they can be used to line the edges of any paths.
Within contemporary garden design especially, we’ve even seen our larger stones and cobbles used to line larger paving, or create whole borders just out of pebbles. This is perfect when building a low maintenance garden that still packs in the wow factor.
50mm Pebble Types
It’s no understatement to say that our 50mm pebbles come in a wide range of sizes, materials, colours and finishes.
While every 50mm batch of pebbles we stock has broad usage potential, here are some specific uses to look out for.
