How to Use White Decorative Stones
White decorative stones, such as our White Pebbles and Cobbles, are ideal for a wide range of landscaping and garden design projects. Their smooth texture, natural product origin, and bright colour make them a popular choice for enhancing outdoor spaces with a clean, modern look. Because of their size and shape, these stones are mainly used for decorative purposes, offering both visual appeal and low-maintenance functionality.
Due to the size and shape of our White Pebbles and Cobbles, their use is predominantly decorative, including:
- Lawn & Garden Border Decoration
- Ornamental Water Features and Pondless Waterfalls NOT Fishponds
- As a plant pot and raised flower bed topping
- Decorative garden pathway (Smallest sizes of pebbles)
- Garden Stone Rockeries & landscaping features
One of the most common uses for white decorative stones is as a border around lawns and garden beds. Their striking contrast against grass and soil helps to clearly define garden edges, while adding an elegant touch and a polished, professional finish to the overall landscape. They can also be used to frame paths, patios, or driveways, contributing to a clean and cohesive garden design.
White stones are particularly effective in ornamental water features and pondless waterfalls. While they are not suitable for use in fishponds, they enhance the beauty of dry riverbeds, fountains, and cascading water displays. Their reflective surfaces catch the light and complement the natural sparkle of water, adding an element of tranquillity and sophistication to your garden.
Another popular use is as a topping for plant pots and raised flower beds. A layer of white pebbles placed over soil not only improves the appearance of your containers but also helps to retain moisture and reduce weed growth, acting as a practical ground cover. This practical and decorative solution works well with a wide variety of plants and suits both indoor and outdoor settings.
Smaller sizes of white pebbles can be used to create decorative garden paths. These pebbles form an attractive and comfortable walking surface that blends naturally with surrounding garden elements. Whether you're designing a winding path through a flower bed or a walkway leading to a seating area, white stones add charm and functionality.
Larger cobbles are perfect for use in rockeries and other landscaping features. They bring texture and contrast to garden designs, working well alongside driftwood, boulders, and drought-tolerant plants. Whether you're creating a focal point or enhancing the structure of your outdoor space, white decorative stones offer a timeless solution.

Benefits of Using White Decorative Stones
White decorative stones offer a variety of practical and aesthetic benefits that make them a popular choice for garden and landscape design. One of the most notable advantages is their visual impact. The clean, bright colour of white pebbles and cobbles provides an elegant touch and an excellent contrast to greenery, wood, and darker materials like grey or slate chippings, helping to highlight specific features and create a more refined, contemporary look.
In addition to their aesthetic value, these stones are also incredibly low-maintenance. Unlike organic ground cover such as bark or mulch, white stones don’t decompose, attract pests, or require regular replacement. They’re resistant to weathering and can withstand year-round exposure to sun, rain, and frost without losing their appearance or integrity.
White stones are also useful for suppressing weeds. When used as a top layer in flower beds or plant pots, they help block light from reaching the soil surface, making it harder for weeds to grow. This reduces the need for chemical weed killers or frequent weeding, allowing you to save time and effort in garden maintenance.
Another practical benefit is moisture retention. While they don’t hold water themselves, decorative stones can help reduce evaporation from the soil beneath, especially when used in containers or raised beds. This contributes to healthier plant growth and more efficient watering.
Durability is another key advantage. White pebbles and cobbles are made from a natural product, giving them excellent longevity. They won’t break down or shift easily, even with foot traffic or weather changes, making them ideal for high-use areas like paths and borders.
Lastly, these stones are versatile and easy to install. Whether you're enhancing a small garden pot or designing a large-scale landscape feature, white decorative stones can be adapted to suit a wide range of styles and projects, offering both form and function in equal measure.

What Type of Stone are White Pebbles & Cobbles?
White Pebbles and Cobbles are a Dolomite stone, which is alkaline, due to the Calcium content, which give them their bright white colour and makes them unsuitable for use in a fish pond where the water pH balance must be maintained.
Will White Pebbles & Cobbles Go Green?
The potential for discolouration is possible for all decorative aggregates at different levels with the harder stones like Granite being less likely to go green, but softer Dolomite being a little more prone to this.
However, the defining characteristic is less about the stone itself and more about where it is to be laid. Areas that are predominantly shaded for much of the day in summer and winter, tend to be cooler and therefore moisture doesn’t evaporate as quickly as an open area that gets the sun. This results in the potential for moss growth on any decorative aggregate, but with periodic maintenance, giving the stone a spray with a hose pipe or cleaning with a specialised product will help to avoid this, along with the removal of fallen leaves as the sap can also cause discolouration if left for a long period.

How much are White Pebbles & Cobbles
Our prices are initially displayed including VAT and delivery to a local address from our yard, but if you enter your delivery postcode into the large orange box, located in the product page for your preferred stone, the prices will update to include the extra delivery cost for the available pallets, specifically to your address, so there are no hidden charges and you can order with confidence.
For most products, we offer various pallet quantities of 20kg poly bags, along with our popular 800kg bulk bags, but as you will see, the most cost-effective prices are for the pallets that are ‘filled’ with either a bulk bag of 800kg or 50x poly bags collectively weighing 1000kg.
This is due to the delivery cost for sending a pallet being almost the same, even if the pallet isn’t filled, so that cost is divided among less material, making the per bag price less cost effective, so be sure how much stone you need, before ordering with our Gravel Calculator.
