Featuring an irregular, angular shape with a flattened profile, due to the layering of the stone, once laid movement over time should be minimal in comparison to a more rounded stone, offering an eye-catching, contemporary finish with a uniform colour that stands the test of time.

Size and Shape:

Graded at 20mm, but due to the natural characteristics of slate as a stone, it will actually include pieces measuring between 30-50mm. Sizing Information.

Ordering Information:

We offer palletised quantities of our Blue Slate chippings, in different weights dependant on your needs. Bulk bags of 800kg are the most cost-effective option, covering around 10m² laid at 50mm depth, but we also offer pallets of 20kg poly bags; 50 covering 12.5m², 21 bags at 5.25m², or 7 poly bags to cover just 1.75m².

Topping up or adding more to extend an area already laid with slate? We would advise ordering a sample to check the colour and size, before placing your main order. Salte is widely available and not all blue slates on the market are equal, varying greatly in colour from various locations.

Weed Suppressant:

Help protect against weed growing up through your newly laid Blue Slate Chippings but adding a Groundtex - Polypropylene Weed Membrane to your order.

While supressing weed growth, the polypropylene is water permeable, allowing it to pass through the woven structure to the ground below, helping to avoid puddles in severe weather.

Frequently Asked Questions

What depth should I lay blue slate 20mm?

We typically advise a 50mm depth for a god coverage, and at the depth a bulk bag of 800kg should cover around 10m². However, as this is a smaller grade in comparison to our 40mm Blue Slate, you can extend the coverage by reducing the depth, but we wouldn’t advise lay at less than 40mm.

Does blue slate fade in the sun?

Blue Slate Chippings are the highest quality stone, sourced in north Wales, so shouldn’t fade over time, but continue to be an eye-catching shade of blue with some plum and purple tones that add depth to this decorative aggregate as the UK climate isn’t normally hot enough to have an effect. However, in hotter locations, some bleaching is possible but wouldn’t be noticeable for a long time.

We aim to deliver all orders within 2-3 working days from receipt of order (Most orders placed before 1pm will be delivered in 2 working days).

Any Next Day deliveries need to be placed before 1pm Monday to Thursday.

Next Day deliveries placed on a Friday before 1pm will be delivered the following Monday

(Excluding Bank Holidays - then the delivery will be on the Tuesday)
